General Questions
We serve homeowners across Northern Virginia and the DC Metro area — including Chantilly, Reston, Ashburn, McLean, Vienna, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, Great Falls, Herndon, Sterling, Centreville, Burke, Springfield, and Manassas. Don't see your area? Contact us — this isn't a complete list.
Yes. Fineline is fully licensed in Virginia (VA #2705162991) and carries full liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage on every project. You're protected from day one through project completion.
Book a complementary on-site consultation through our website or call us directly at +1 (703) 261-6151. We'll visit your home, look at your space, and give you an honest picture of what's possible before any commitment is made.
We manage every project with our own dedicated team — design, permits, construction, and cleanup. For licensed trade work such as electrical and plumbing, we coordinate with trusted licensed tradespeople, but your project always has one Fineline point of contact accountable for the entire scope.
We work with premium brands across all categories — SubZero, Thermador, Wolf, and Bosch for appliances; Kohler, Toto, Brizo, and Hansgrohe for fixtures; Wilsonart and other premium suppliers for cabinetry and surfaces. We don't work from big-box store catalogs.
Kitchen Remodeling
A typical kitchen remodel runs 6 to 10 weeks from demolition to final walkthrough, depending on scope. The design and permitting phase adds additional time before construction begins. We provide a detailed timeline at the start of every project.
Not necessarily. For most kitchen remodels we work to maintain access to at least one functional cooking or eating area. We discuss your living situation during the consultation and plan the construction sequence to minimize disruption where possible.
Both. We can work within your existing layout if it functions well, or we can redesign it entirely if the current configuration doesn't serve how you use the kitchen. Every project starts with understanding how you actually cook and move through the space.
Yes. We coordinate appliance delivery and handle installation to manufacturer standards. If you've already purchased appliances separately, we can work with what you have — just let us know during the planning phase so we can confirm compatibility with your layout.
Bathroom Remodeling
A typical bathroom remodel runs 3 to 6 weeks from demolition to completion, depending on scope. Primary suite overhauls tend to run longer than powder room or guest bath projects. We give you a specific timeline during the design phase.
Yes. Relocating plumbing is common in bathroom remodels and is included in our scope when required by the design. We assess feasibility during the on-site consultation and factor it into your estimate upfront — no surprise costs mid-project.
Waterproofing is non-negotiable on every bathroom we build. We use proper waterproof membranes, backer board systems, and installation techniques in all wet areas — shower floors, walls, and around the tub. This is one of the most common places where cheaper contractors cut corners, and it's where most bathroom failures start.
Yes. Radiant floor heating is a popular upgrade in primary bathroom remodels and is something we can incorporate during the tile installation phase. It needs to be planned before tile goes down, so let us know early in the design process if it's something you're interested in.
Basement Remodeling
A typical basement finish runs 8 to 12 weeks from the start of construction. More complex builds with full bathrooms, kitchenettes, or home theaters can run longer. Permit timelines in your jurisdiction also affect the overall schedule.
Always. Moisture assessment is part of every basement consultation. We don't frame or drywall over a moisture problem — we identify it, address it, and document the solution before any finishing work begins. Skipping this step is the primary reason finished basements fail.
Yes. Adding a bathroom to a basement requires rough-in plumbing, proper waterproofing, and a permit — all of which we handle. The feasibility depends on your existing drain system and basement floor depth, which we assess during the consultation.
For below-grade spaces, we recommend luxury vinyl plank, engineered hardwood, or large-format porcelain tile — all of which handle moisture better than solid hardwood or carpet. The right choice depends on your basement's moisture levels and intended use, which we assess before recommending anything.
Home Addition
Home additions typically run 12 to 20 weeks for construction, plus additional time for design and permitting. Permit timelines vary significantly by jurisdiction and addition type. We give you a realistic total timeline — including permitting — at the start of the project.
Yes. Architectural drawings are part of our scope for home additions — we don't ask you to hire a separate architect and then hand us drawings. We produce the plans, submit them for permits, and manage revisions if required by the county.
That's the goal of every addition we build. We source exterior materials — siding, roofing, trim, and windows — that match or complement your existing home as closely as possible. Interior finishes are specified to flow naturally from the existing space into the new one.
Many Northern Virginia neighborhoods require HOA approval before a home addition permit can be issued. We check your HOA requirements during the planning phase and factor approval timelines into the project schedule — so you're not surprised by delays.
Process & Timeline
Your project is built by a dedicated Fineline crew — the same people start it and finish it. We don't rotate workers or hand your project off mid-build. You'll know the team by name, and they'll know your project inside and out.
You have a direct point of contact at Fineline throughout your project. We do weekly walkthrough updates so you can see progress in person and ask questions. We also communicate proactively if anything changes — material delays, schedule shifts, or decisions that need your input.
Yes — entirely. We pull all required permits for your project, manage every inspection, and handle any revisions required by the county. You don't deal with the permitting office at any point. All work is fully code-compliant from start to finish.
Changes are handled through a formal change order process. Any modification to the original scope is priced in writing and approved by you before work proceeds. We don't make changes and present the bill at the end — every cost adjustment is documented and agreed on upfront.
Pricing & Payment
Every project receives a full itemized estimate covering every line item — labor, materials, permits, and all associated costs. We don't give ballpark numbers and fill in the gaps later. You know exactly what you're committing to before signing anything.
We offer a complementary on-site consultation where we assess your space, discuss your goals, and give you honest budget guidance. A full itemized estimate is prepared after the design phase, once we have precise measurements and a confirmed scope of work.
Payment is structured in milestones tied to project phases — a deposit to secure your start date, followed by progress payments as work is completed. We'll walk you through the full payment schedule before you sign anything so there are no surprises.
The only time your final cost differs from the estimate is if you request a change to the original scope. All changes go through a formal change order process — priced and approved by you in writing before any additional work proceeds. We don't add costs after the fact.
